People come to me with all sorts of problems and goals. But the common desire is for joy, freedom, fulfilment. The work we do in coaching can feel difficult at times, but the foundation is not complicated: do more of what makes you happy. It doesn't have to be big stuff. Small steps, small activities, little joys here and there - they add up to making you feel more content within yourself, more compassionate to yourself, like yourself and your own company a bit more. So that your happiness depends less on others, and more on what you create from inside. This is a very helpful start, with lots of little ideas you can start on right away:

Last weekend, I took my first step with the Strozzi Institute for Somatics to deepen my journey into somatic practice—an approach that incorporates the body as a gateway to personal transformation and leadership development. Thank you Margriet Drew-Stoeten Elisabeth Weingraber - Pircher Alison Joslyn, MBA, PCC Małgorzata Czerwiec-Ibrom for being with me on this journey. I’m excited to bring these practices into my programs and coaching, helping leaders tap into the deeper wisdom within so they can more quickly and fully embody what leadership truly looks and feels like for them. What is your body telling you right now? Is it calm, tense, energized, or perhaps overwhelmed? Often, we don’t realize how much our body carries—emotions, experiences, and unspoken truths that shape how we show up, connect, and lead. Yet, what’s in the body shapes how we show up, how we connect, and how we lead. Try this practice: • Take a moment to tune in. Place your hand on your heart or stomach, close your eyes, and feel what’s present without judgment. • Notice your breath—does it come easily or with resistance? Is there space or tightness in your chest, shoulders, or jaw? • As you breathe, ask yourself: 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚? 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙢𝙮 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣? Start there. The Power of Incentives: Unlocking Our True Potential Column by Ellen Jansen Incentives—who isn't familiar with them? They are the driving force that prompts us to take action, necessary to achieve results. But what happens when there is no incentive? Often, we as individuals (and thus also affiliated organizations) find it challenging to do what is necessary. For example, ask ten random people on the street if they can jump six meters, and at least nine will initially say no. Another example: ask ten passersby here in Maastricht if they can get to Groningen within three hours. "Not feasible" will be the most common response. However, if you offer a reward of one million euros, suddenly everyone can jump those six meters. Or they ensure that they can do it in the very near future. Or tell them that if they get to Groningen within three hours, they can see a dying family member one last time. Bet that person will do everything possible to get there? Our Limiting Minds In conclusion, our brains naturally work in a limiting way. They keep us away from the true capacities we all have within us. If you had ever told me that I would run two businesses, write a book simultaneously, and maintain a social life, I would have told you it was impossible. Simply because I didn't know any better. Because my brain made me believe that. The Confronting Truth Now, the confronting part of my message: children and pets need rewards to take action or learn things. Adults, however, should act from intrinsic commitments, making incentives unnecessary. The people who complete my programs or leave my lectures operate from a personality that does what needs to be done, no matter what the circumstances are. As William John Locke eloquently says: "Half the unhappiness in life comes from people being afraid to go straight at things." Take Control of Your Life Don’t let life just happen to you; don’t be led by thoughts that things are impossible. If I had done that, I wouldn't be typing these messages for you now. My book wouldn’t be on the shelves. My company wouldn't be providing energy for 2,000 connections. I wouldn't be coaching executives. And my foundation wouldn't be providing clean drinking water to hundreds of families in Tanzania. Trust me, everyone can do outstanding things. 𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲? Many people find it confusing to distinguish between coaching and therapy, often leading to hesitation in seeking help. In any ICF coaching education, we always begin by understanding the fundamental distinctions between the two. While both coaches and therapists can be helpful, their approaches and focus differs. Together with Marc Van Huizen, Kimberly Tng, and Daryl Tan, we recently participated in a CNA Insider interview to share insights about coaching and therapy: 𝑲𝒆𝒚 𝑫𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 ℹ️ Therapy: Makes space to explore how the past have affected us, identify stressors and trigger points, and develop coping mechanisms. ℹ️ Coaching: Hold space to ask challenging questions in a respectful manner, gain new perspectives, and work towards achieving your goals. 𝑹𝒆𝒅 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒔 🚩 Therapists: Engage in dual relationship with the clients or bring their personal values and beliefs into the sessions 🚩 Coaches: Spend more time advising or breach confidentiality by constantly sharing clients' names and stories My personal take is therapy looks into past to heal whereas coaching looks forward to help you achieve. A skilled coach will recognise when a client requires support beyond the scope of coaching and refer them to therapy when necessary. Are we here for AA? Is it a group therapy? That’s how it starts, always 😅 Human beings have gathered in circles together for thousands of years. For rituals, creating commUNITY, sharing stories of survival in a safe space around the fire. 🔥 Sitting in a circle creates a feeling of belonging, a feeling of connection and a sense of equality. I see it all the time, although it tends to be a little awkward in the beginning of the day, this set up opens up collaboration. Perhaps it’s because circles require us to embrace a sense of vulnerability, to be seen, to give everyone a chance to contribute...and if vulnerability and openness is not the norm, changing things up can feel at least a little bit uncomfortable. People sit facing each other, alongside another, there’s eye contact, facial expressions, body movements, you’re visible, you’re heard and most importantly, you’re accountable for your presence! If we want engagement, passion, meaningful interaction, it's time to rearrange the room! Take out square tables, get rid of the rows of chairs, change the set up in virtual meetings. Make space for relationships not distractions, divisions, boundaries, boring linear thinking set ups designed to communicate instead of collaborate! From a circle ⭕️ depth, connection, belonging, purposeful conversation and truth can emerge. When was the last time you sat in a circle? Shattering Your Inner Glass Ceiling: An Orientation to Women's Leadership Series In our LIVE session yesterday we explored the concept of the inner glass ceiling, the self-limiting beliefs that hold us back from reaching our full potential. Co-facilitators Nicole van Kuppeveld and Eliza von Baeyer, PhD showcased an approach that is being adopted globally by women to tap into their feminine power, shared a process to shatter inner barriers to self-actualization, and provided strategies to overcome imposter syndrome.
